The Development Bank of Kiribati is one of a State Owned Enterprise of the Kiribati Government operated under the direction of a Board of Directors appointed by the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development.
1986 – Development Bank of Kiribati Act signed.
1987 – Development Bank of Kiribati operation started with a small main office at the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources Development building in Bairiki.
As the number of staff increased it acquired additional office space by renting a room at the building once owned by the Kiribati Supplies Company Ltd.
1991 – Office moved and sited at the KPF Building Complex top floor in Bairiki until now.
2018 – DBK expanded its agency coverage to all outer Islands.
October 2019 – DBK renewed it membership with the Association of Development Financing Institutions in Asia and the Pacific (ADFIAP).
Today the DBK sharpens its development focus to instigate operational and institutional changes necessary to meet the following objectives:
- Providing affordable and quality banking services and products to the people of Kiribati including those on the outer islands
- Boosting economic growth and standards of living as well as employment creation and
- Increased profitability
